Thirty-two preschool children in the Democratic Republic of Congo beamed with excitement as they arrived in colorful new outfits for the Kikungu Center Preschool's first end-of-year celebration. Each carefully sewn garment added to the joy of the occasion and helped every child feel seen, valued, and ready to celebrate.

Behind those vibrant outfits was 22-year-old Immacule Banza.

Immacule was one of the first participants in the Child Support Specialist (CSS) program in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Through the CSS program, orphaned children receive compassionate care, encouragement, and hope as they navigate grief, loss, and life’s challenges. Guided by caring community health volunteers, children are supported through counseling, mentorship, and activities that foster healing, resilience, and self-confidence. The program creates a safe and nurturing environment where children can develop important life skills, build meaningful relationships, and pursue educational opportunities that help shape a brighter future.

For Immacule, one of those opportunities was learning sewing skills.

Today, she is using those skills not only to support herself, but also to serve others. When the Kikungu preschool prepared for its first end-of-year celebration, Immacule volunteered her time and talent to sew outfits for all 32 preschool children. Her gift transformed the event into something even more special, bringing smiles to children and pride to families and the community.

What makes this story remarkable is the ripple effect it represents. Years ago, community health volunteers invested time and care in a young girl through the CSS program. Their support helped nurture her abilities and encouraged her growth. Now, Immacule is passing that care forward to a new generation of children.

The outfits she created were more than clothing. They were a reminder that every child deserves dignity, joy, and the opportunity to celebrate important milestones.

Because of the care Immacule received, her story continues far beyond her own journey. Through sharing her skills, she is impacting dozens of young lives and strengthening her community.
